I use three levels of bookmarks - browser, del.icio.us and blogs. Each has its own use. The browser bookmarks are easy, but are tied to the system in which you hold the bookmarks.
Social bookmarks or webmarks store bookmarks on a central server and make them accessible from any where. One of the most popular web based bookmarking system is del.icio.us. In addition to storing bookmarks on the cloud, it also provides other neat features like sharing them, associating tags with them for easy search and associating a description. You can also easily retrieve them by tags. For example, this url retrieves all my bookmarks about blogging. Any one can use it since they are a public.

Lots of times, I bookmark something and do not remember why I did it. In addition, I want to collect a few of these and store them in one place. In that case, I use a blog entry as a super bookmark. The entry consists of a set of links (bookmarks) and some contextual information. After a year or two, it is easy to go back and look at them and recall the original purpose. Thanks to Google Blog Search engine, they are also easy to locate. People share bookmarks through blog posts. These are also known as link blogs.
